Earlier this year we talked about the Human Body and the internal organs. We learned about how our food is digested, how our brains send signals to our muscles and nerves, and even about how many bones we have in our bodies!
The book below helped to get us started, and I found at a Goodwill for about $4 last year 🙂
What better way to really have elementary aged kids see and understand their insides than to make an art project out of it! I had each kid lay on some long paper (bought from Ikea and has lasted like 2 years!) and I traced each of them. Then we went through the above book and started to figure out what we should use for each piece.
We pretty much just used some tissue paper (we had a lot left over form some Christmas Clearance I attacked), streamer paper, Q Tips, Tape, markers, and Glue. We also used some of that packing material with the air bubbles all over to represent the lungs. I found another blogger who used spaghetti noodles and other fun stuff. My creative juices were not as strong on this day…and I noticed the longer it took us to go through it, the less interested these guys were. So I cut my losses and kept it minimum!
All in all, it was a fun project and I hope it helps anyone who is also thinking about their science plans and a way to spice it up!
